This is Ed
He left for an advanced canoeing course just after I took this. We dropped him off early in the morning and then later some friends and I followed down the river after him on a shared raft. We were pulled off halfway down the run. A single person canoe had stuck between two rocks, folded and trapped the rider in an air pocket under the water. We waited anxiously to find out if it was our friend.
It turned out Ed had decided to ride a different section of water with his instructor after we had dropped him off.
The person stuck was someone we didn’t know. We watched as a Sea King helicopter tried to pull him out of the water. He was 19 and died shortly after we arrived.
